House Story - Becky Wilson

Becky Wilson has been at House of Mercy since we first started meeting, and in our four years of being a worshipping community, the journey for her has had some twists and turns. Becky had a healthy first half of life growing up in a loving family who presented the Love of God to her in all its beauty. It's a Love that doesn't cause us to be separate from the world, but as James Finley says, "One of the marks of the authenticity of this infinite union with the infinite Love of God, is that we join God in circling back around to be present to the hurting world." Unfortunately, Becky found herself at times in church spaces that instead encouraged separation from the world in ways that left her and her own family feeling ostracized and alone. One of the many beauties of Becky though is she didn't panic, but persevered following the Light within her own soul, while being gracious to those around her who might disagree.

At House of Mercy, she has doubled down on being present to the hurting world with the Love of God, as she brings friends from Western Correctional Center to church every Sunday, goes with us to the prison in the afternoon, and serves on the board of Ministry of Hope, which is the non-profit that we work with and through to serve WCCW. In addition, she and her husband host the East AVL Small Group, or more accurately...the East AVL PARTY!

The twists and turns have come in the form of new ways of looking at Scripture and what it means to follow Christ, which has forced Becky to unlearn some things from her past. This has been stretching for her, and at times even uncomfortable, but as she says, every time she focuses on the lives that are being transformed all around her, and then is able to trust and rest in the same Love of God that she grew up with. HoM would not be the same without Becky Wilson. We love you, Becky!
