As a Mission Church of the EPC we are overseen by the Presbytery of the Central Carolinas, with the Church Planting Committee serving as our provisional elders.

Rev. Chad Smith, Pastor

Chad grew up in Memphis, TN and graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a BA in History. It was during his time in Knoxville in the late 90's that he fell in love with the city of Asheville. Chad went on to receive a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary and has been involved in ordained ministry since 2007. He and his family have lived in Asheville since 2016 and he absolutely loves the music and food scenes, runs and reads a little, and enjoys movies and TV shows a lot. Chad and his wife Jennifer have been married since 2000, and they have three children: Amelia (‘03), Ben (‘06) & Elliott (‘10).

  • Cam King

    Director for Worship Arts

    Cam has many years of experience leading worship and working in ministry. He's directed worship for several college ministries and churches in multiple states. He moved from West Virginia to Asheville with his wife Sarah and four kids in 2016 for a new adventure, and became a full time mailman in 2019. Cam still kept finding himself drawn to music and leadership in churches, and his time at House of Mercy has been no different. He has true joy and enthusiasm while leading, but is also no stranger to life’s grief and sorrow. Cam’s passion inspires others to give of themselves more freely. He loves coffee in the morning, beer in the evening, and connecting in the “eternal now” with all the people God has made.

  • Shelly Baker

    Director for Communications

    Shelly has a decade of experience in E-commerce, marketing, event planning, and communications. She works closely with HoM patrons to get the story of House of Mercy out to the people of our community and beyond.

    Coming most recently from New York City, Shelly was born and raised not far from Asheville in Columbia, South Carolina. She is a huge Harry Potter and LSU fan and will talk about them at length if you get her started. In her spare time, Shelly likes to craft and spend time with her friends & her husband Ryan. She can be found frequenting her other passion the 12 Baskets café garden to drink coffee and socialize. Find out more about 12 Baskets here!
